Little Rock Stepparent Adoption Attorney
When one thinks of adoption, one typically thinks of an out-of-family adoption, such as adopting a child from Korea, China, Russia or another country. The reality is that many adoptions are within blended families. When a divorced parent remarries, or an unmarried parent marries someone who is not the biological parent, adoption is one way to make the new family "official" in all senses of the word.
At The Henry Firm, P.A., we are happy to be able to offer all of the legal services that are needed for stepparent adoption as well as grandparent adoption.
For any family law issue including divorce, child custody or adoption, please contact our Arkansas adoption lawyer at 866-533-0553 or 501-859-6170 or send our law firm an e-mail.
Understanding Arkansas Adoption and Parental Rights
Matthew Henry is an adoption lawyer who can discuss this matter with you to determine the best course of action for you and your family. Adoption by a stepparent or grandparent typically happens only in certain circumstances:
- If the biological parent is an absentee parent who has not had contact with the child or paid child support, then permission from the biological parent is not required in the state of Arkansas.
- If the biological parent has had contact with the child, then the biological parent may need to give up his or her parental rights. We can discuss this matter with you.
- The Department of Human Services (DHS) or Child Protective Services (CPS) may terminate parental rights of a biological parent who is abusive or unfit for some reason. If this applies to you, please contact our law firm for help.
At our law firm, we believe in defending the best interests of our clients, whatever those interests may be, and act in an ethical and straightforward manner at all times.
